Picture a scientist. Are you imagining someone in a lab coat and glasses? Are they holding beakers or test tubes?

Scientists are often characterized one-dimensionally as analytical and logic-driven, devoid of creativity. But many food scientists say they are drawn to their career because it’s a blend of both art and science.

Collectively, our staff has over 150 years of experience as scientists. But we also garden. We scrapbook. We perfect our barbecue and sourdough recipes. We play piano. We tap dance. We play (and umpire!) baseball. We knit.

We are scientific, but we are also creative. We are the Merlins.
